“One of the most challenging things about living with diabetes is the fact that it’s an invisible disease.”
 
Brianne from Hamilton, Ontario was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in 1997 when she was just 11 years old. Fast forward to today, and Brianne is juggling her full-time job while raising her two young daughters with her husband and managing her diabetes.
 
“Diabetes can affect almost every part of your body,” Brianne says. “It can be quite complicated and frustrating to manage as blood glucose levels can be affected by more than just what a person has eaten. You can be so precise and careful about how you manage your lifestyle, but it’s unpredictable. It becomes challenging if you’re having a hard day and the extra pressure and stress of managing your diabetes can go unaware as others may not realize you’re living with diabetes.”

There are some MedicAlert team members who have seen it all. Peter is one of them. This year Peter is celebrating 15 years at MedicAlert – celebrating with an award for innovation and process improvement. Here’s how Peter has, and continues, to make an incredible impact for his co-workers as well as MedicAlert’s subscribers and partners.

Prior to arriving at MedicAlert, Peter had been downsized from Celestica –  a company working in design, manufacturing, hardware platform and supply chain solutions. Rather than being discouraged, Peter took the opportunity to reflect on what he wanted to do with his life.

60 Years of Partnerships: Constable Kevin Goodmurphy’s Story

The day we spoke with Constable Kevin Goodmurphy, a 12-year police veteran of the West Vancouver Police Service (six years with West Vancouver Police, the previous six years with another agency), he was multitasking – navigating the interview with us, and a brewing protest march beginning to build on the famous Lionsgate Bridge that connects downtown Vancouver to what is commonly known as “The North Shore”.

“It’s all in a day’s work,” he says. “At any given point in time we can be dealing with a protest, a robbery, a disturbance of some kind, or someone who has wandered away from home.” [...]
